Spital Thurgau cooperates with Unispital Zurich
Hospital Thurgau
Thurgau and Zurich operate chest together
Thurgau Thoracic Surgery works together with the Clinic for Thoracic Surgery at Zurich University Hospital.
The surgical clinics in Frauenfeld and Münsterlingen merged on January 1, 2022. At the same time, thoracic surgery in Münsterlingen was reorganized. The clinic for thoracic surgery of the University Hospital Zurich, headed by Isabelle Schmitt-Opitz, was won as a cooperation partner, as is Spital Thurgau AG.
This cooperation allows the professional exchange and the conciliar co-assessment at the latest scientific level. Patients with diseases of the chest and lungs will continue to be evaluated and treated at both of the canton’s acute hospitals. The treatment concepts are discussed with the involvement of the university hospital at weekly tumor conferences.
Shorter hospital stay
As before, operations are carried out exclusively in Münsterlingen, but now jointly by Münsterlingen and Zurich surgeons. In January, several minimally invasive, thoracoscopic anatomical lung resections were performed. This so-called keyhole surgery allows rapid convalescence, a short stay in hospital and allows the patient to be discharged directly into their home environment.
According to the notification, a rehabilitation stay is usually no longer necessary. The coordination of the thoracic surgical patients in Münsterlingen is carried out by Pietro Renzulli, Head of Surgery. The consultants from the University Hospital Zurich are the thoracic surgeon Sven Hillinger, senior physician, and senior physician Claudio Caviezel.
