Monaco. A convertible Jaguar driven by Steve McQueen sold at auction for almost €110,000
A Jaguar E-Type convertible was sold at auction in Monaco on Friday May 13, 2022, on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Grand Prix organized in the principality. The vehicle had been used by the famous Steve McQueen during the filming of the film Le Mans (about the 24 Hours of Le Mans), released in 1971, report France 3 Provence Alps French Riviera.
This silver and black car has only 74,000 km on the odometer to date and still has its original British number plates. But unlike English vehicles, its steering wheel is located on the left, specifies the news channel.
Offered to a member of the film crew
The Jaguar, used by Steve McQueen during his travels at the time, had been offered by the actor himself to a member of the filming crew, 51 years ago. As our colleagues tell, the American pilot having been delighted by the quality of the dishes prepared by the team’s cook, he then offered to choose any of the vehicles from his fleet.
“He says to me ‘you make me a steak, I’ll let you do it.’ So I added mustard and then honey. And every day he said “make me my steak”, a revealed cook. The latter therefore chose the Jaguar.
Sold at €109,250
Now 80 years old, the man of Swiss nationality decided to sell it after having used it very little. Offered at auction by the British house Bonhams, the car had been estimated between 250,000 and 300,000 €. It was eventually sold for less than half that sum at €109,250, says France 3.
