Greece is “flying” high again

The strong period of Greece as a destination on the international tourist map – after two years of health crisis – is reflected in the recent data of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), where last month reached 95% of passenger traffic in April 2019.
Specifically, passenger traffic at airports skyrocketed by 383% in the first four months of 2022 compared to the corresponding period of 2021, while flights for the same period increased by 103%. However, compared to the first four months of 2019, passenger traffic in 2022 was lower by 22.5%.
What needs special mention are the data individually in April. Passenger traffic recorded a + 555.2% compared to April 2021, while it fell just 4.1% compared to the corresponding month of 2019, estimating that in May passenger traffic at airports will be able to exceed levels before from the pandemic.
Comparing the statistics for the four months of January / April 2019 when the flights were 99,164, this year in the first four months of the year a 9.6% drop in boat traffic. In the total passenger traffic, which was 10.4 million in the four months of January / April 2019, now for the same period considered there is a drop of 22.5%.
Finally, in April the total number of passenger passengers amounted to 3,591,241, an increase of 555.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 548,102 passengers were handled. Flights to all airports in the country amounted to 33,367, from 15,419 were domestic and 17,948 international, showing an increase of 153%, compared to the corresponding period of April 2021 when 13,191 flights were operated.
In particular, for the arrivals of passenger flights in April 2022 we had an increase of 1,179.8%, which corresponds to 1,299,571 passengers, compared to April ’21 when the arrivals of commercial flights were 101,541 passengers.
