Unidentified hackers discovered obstruction of the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, but experts in the fight against computer events managed to prevent them. This was announced on Twitter on Sunday, May 15, by the press service of the Italian police.
Hackers detect penetration into the computer network of the competition on the first day of the semi-finals, May 10, and also call such DDoS attacks during the final voting on the night of May 15. According to experts, the Russian hacker group Killnet may be behind the attacks.
Russia was deprived of the opportunity to participate in the 66th Eurovision due to the aggressive war in Ukraine. The victory in the competition was won by the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra.
Juries of Georgia and Azerbaijan removed from voting in the final
On Sunday, May 15, cost broadcasters of Georgia and Azerbaijan bewildered published the results of the vote of the national jury. The promised countries indicated that their juries gave the highest score – 12 – to Ukraine, not the UK, as indicated in the final tables of the competition. According to the cases, Ukraine received 6 points from the jury of two countries.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said that in Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as four other countries – Montenegro, Poland, the Republic and San Marino – after the second dress rehearsal of the semi-final, “cases of detection of violations in the case of arrest” were identified. After that they were replaced by “aggregated result”.
“The EBU takes alleged attempts to manipulate voting in the contest extremely seriously and has the right to withdraw such votes subject to regions’ voting limits, regardless of what such votes may be on the results,” the application statement reads.
