Take a look at the replica of the Atlantis space shuttle. The Prague Planetarium has the most faithful model in the world
“Atlantis was one of the American space shuttles that flew into orbit. Atlantis was the last of those space shuttles in space, ”explains Jan Veselý, an astrophysicist and lecturer of educational programs, in the cockpit. The replica of the Atlantis space shuttle was created during the pandemic closure of the Prague Planetarium, and designers are still working on it. In the future, they would have to experience a landing simulation, but they are already boasting one priority.
“Our replica is completely faithful, it is in 1: 1 scale, we will see a lot of monitors in front of us and the shuttle is unique in that it is the most faithful model in the world. Most of those parts, those hundreds of strangers, are made on 3D printers here. Visitors can usually enter it. ”The noise of the computers of the various instruments that the astronauts on board live with is also faithful. “The shuttle or international station will orbit the Earth in an hour and a half, there is always light, the light and dark regime is done there artificially and something is still buzzing there,” adds Jan Veselý.
In the Prague Planetarium you can also see a replica of the landing module of the Vostok spacecraft, which was flown into space by the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. In front of the building you will also find the lunar module Eagle, which landed on the moon.
