The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted an agreement on the inadmissibility of the monopolization of Russia, the victory over Nazism in World War II.
Ukrainian deputies say that Russia is distorting historical events and is trying to appropriate merit in the victory over Hitler.
The victory became “a common achievement of the Anti-Hitler coalition and the continuation of the persecution, and the war – a common tragedy of the peoples of the world,” is stated in the text of the appendix itself.
The statement of the Ukrainian parliament also says that the cases of Russia in Ukraine should be suspended, and the security regime should be awaited and defeated by the joint threats of the entire civilized world.
In Russia, Victory Day will bring in a big way, especially in the last years of Vladimir Putin’s presidency. It is associated with military parades and solemn events, in the mass media theses are actively exaggerated about the decisive contribution to the victory of the Soviet (and, consequently, in Russia) people and slogans like “we can apply.”
“Society is not just mature”
At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada did not pass the bill on the transfer of the Victory Day holidays to May 8 – as in other European countries.
The bill, introduced by 30 deputies from all factions, also provided for the renaming of the holiday as “Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II.” It was proposed to make this day a day off after the end of martial law, and on May 9, together with all EU countries, to celebrate Europe Day.
However, the factional legal party Servant of the People blocked the legislative initiative, predetermining liberalization with declarations about the unacceptable monopolization of the Russian victory in World War II.
Some laws remained dissatisfied with the outcome of Zelensky’s party. “Deputies of the turnover cover up their fear of Putin,” said Vladimir Vyatrovich, a people’s deputy from the European Solidarity Association.
“Now society is not just mature. It demands to celebrate May 9. We have neither the need nor the right to cling to this service of the Russian covens,” – proclaimed the Ukrainian People’s Deputy.
However, the alleged Verkhovna Rada notes the appointment of a new state holiday “victory over public Nazism” – the deputies want to establish it after the victory in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
