Fireworks return over the dam: they offer a north-south battle
First a fireworks message in support of Unicef, later four competition fireworks above the surface of the Brno dam and finally the final light show in honor of Gregor Johann Mendel above Špilberk Castle. The Ignis Brunensis Festival will appear in Brno for the twenty-fifth time this year, this time offering a duel of the North for the South or the Swedes against the Croats and Slovenes.

The main part of the program returns above the level of the reservoir, where people will head for four fireworks between June 25 and July 6. Due to covid restrictions, the previous two years were recorded in the city center in Špilberk. “This year, the peak of the festival takes place at the dam at the end of June and intervenes in the holidays at the beginning of July. It can be enjoyed by everyone who stays in South Moravia in their time, but also by tourists, “said President Jan Grolich.
The traditional home team Flash Barrandov SFX, Croatian Pyro Gamblers, Slovenian Hamex and Göteborgs Fyrverkeri from Sweden will show their skills above the dam. A special mandatory task awaits them. At the festival two years ago, it was planned to celebrate the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth at a foreign show with obligatory two-minute treatments of unusual adaptations of Destiny or Ode to Joy. “Thanks to coronavirus and a two-year shift, there will sometimes be an interesting situation where we commemorate the two hundredth plus Beethoven’s second birthday in the obligatory part of the show,” said Jiří Morávek, CEO of Snip & Co.

Dam pyromusical performances will be complemented by fireworks projects in the south and in the center of Brno. The prelude dedicated to all children will kick off at the South Brno Children’s Day in the Hněvkovského complex on Saturday, June 11. The fireworks finale over Špilberk on July 23 will be dedicated to Gregor Johann Mendel, so it will become part of the city-wide celebrations of the bicentennial of the birth of the world-famous founder of genetics.
The festival will be preceded by a fireworks message called Let Peace Remain With This Landscape to the song Prayer for Martha. It will take place on Sunday, May 8 above Špilberk. The organizers will join the global initiative # fireworks4peace to promote world peace, freedom and the symbolic struggle for democracy and equality between the nations of the world. In Brno, it will specifically support the Unicef Nezavadná voda program in areas of war conflicts.
The same fireworks message will illuminate the night sky around the planet on May 8, the day of the end of World War II. Fireworks and fireworks festival organizers are already participating in charity calls in forty places and four continents – in Europe, Asia, America and Australia. European cities include Madrid, Spain, Hamburg, Germany and Salzburg, Austria.
