Poland buys Russian gas from Germany
Moscow – The amount of gas in the opposite direction corresponds almost exactly to the gas demanded by the participants in the contract with Gazprom in the previous days.
Gazprom disputes Warsaw politicians’ claim that the country does not need Russian gas because Poland now gets its energy from Germany, Sergei Kupriyanov, a spokesman for Russia’s state-owned gas group, told reporters.
“Poland this week refused to pay in rubles under the new procedure for incoming gas supplies. It was solemnly announced that Russia is no longer needed and should not be bought. But gas is not the case,” Kuprijanov said.
“Suspension of direct supplies Poland has bought Russian gas. However, now, from where it is returning to Poland via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, the amount of gas in return – after 30 million cubic meters per day – is almost exactly in line with Gazprom’s exported gas demand.” a Gazprom spokesman added.
Gazprom on Wednesday cut off gas supplies to Bulgarian Bulgargaz and Polish PGNiG as neither paid in rubles on time.
According to the Russian Federal Customs Service, Russian gas supplies to Poland rose to a serious 9.4 billion cubic meters last year, and those to Bulgaria doubled to 3.15 billion cubic meters.
Poland uses about 20 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Warsaw said it had found a way to stop using Russian natural gas anymore, as it would buy liquefied natural gas from the United States and Qatar, as well as import it from Norway.
