Hope for Czech boilers and stoves. Prague and Warsaw are arranging LNG transport
According to Tomáš Pojar’s adviser to the Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS), this was also the subject of negotiations between Fiala and Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday in Prague.
Raw material from Norway
According to Pojar, Poland is connected to several countries for Czech Radio, is also building a link to Norway, has an LNG terminal and will want to continue to strengthen.
“We talked about the coordination of steps and the Czech interest in participating in strengthening the gas network so that gas flows into the Czech Republic as well,” confirmed Pojar.
According to him, the Czechia is also interested in participating in the construction of the Stork 2 gas pipeline, which would facilitate supplies to the Czech Republic. Stork 2 from the Polish terminal Swinoujscie to the Czech Republic with a connection to the Moravian-Silesian Region was planned years ago, but it left the project after not receiving European support six years ago.
Fiala will discuss further action in Warsaw on Friday with her counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki. According to ENA analyst Jiří Gavor, the project was planned to be implemented by 2028, but given the current events, it is possible that it will be accelerated. “It simply came to our notice then. The capacity could be around three billion cubic meters per year, “said Gavor on Thursday.
After the Oder to Ostrava
Another way to get LNG to the Czech Republic could be navigating the Odra from the Polish border, for example to Ostrava. “It’s in the stadium now. They will also include the fact that the Directorate of Waterways of the Czech Republic will commission a territorial-analytical study. This will be the basis for updating the principles of territorial development and should, among other things, assess possible variants of the port’s location in the Ostrava agglomeration, including its transport connections and environmental impacts, “Martin Brychta, a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, told Práva on Thursday.
We consider the possible connection to the dynamically developing seaport of Szczecin-Swinoujscie as possible benefits.
“As for the possible transport of LNG, this is one of the things we have been dealing with since the beginning of the aggression in Ukraine,” added Russian Brychta. Large Czech energy suppliers are also considering the supply of liquefied natural gas.
“We are negotiating the supply of Norwegian gas, LNG, and we have been filling gas tanks for two weeks now. We usually flow from various large retailers at virtual points of sale. We do not buy directly from Gazprom, “Miroslav Vránek, a spokesman for Pražská plynárenská, told Práva.
“We are examining the possibilities of LNG supplies,” CEZ spokesman Roman Gazdík told Práva. The annual capacity of the Polish terminal in Świnoujście is now five billion cubic meters and is planned to increase to eight billion. For comparison, Czech consumption ranges from eight to nine billion cubic meters per year. The US and Qatar supply the most liquefied gas.
