Hannover 96: Christoph Dabrowski celebrates “redemptive and liberating feeling” – 2nd Bundesliga
Thank you Dabro!
Despite a turbulent week, the loyal Christoph Dabrowski (43) kept his nerve and overview. He led 96 to 2-0 against Karlsruhe.
Rescue (almost) done, mission (almost) accomplished. If Dresden does not win against Regensburg on Saturday, 96 would be saved prematurely and finally.
“Of course we’re overjoyed to have clinched an immensely minor home win,” says Dabrowski. “We wanted to take a big step. We’ll see what the results look like on Saturday. As of today, it’s not over yet.”
Not being able to rescue is only theoretically possible. Dresden would have to win all three games and not get 96 points anymore…
But what happened in Dabro before, during and after the game?
The coach: “I can only concentrate on the task with the team – and I tried to convey that to her. That we focus on football, ignore everything else around us and take the decisive step to achieve our goals. In the end we managed quite well, even though it was very hard work in the second half. You could see that we still had a backpack on. When it was 2-0 it was a redeeming and liberating feeling!”
Before the Karlsruhe game, his remaining hope was placed on a new contract. Boss Martin Art publicly confirmed Stefan Leitl’s engagement. Dabro put all that aside and hired his squad well. The 0:3 in Paderborn was followed by this 2:0.
Dabrowski resolved: “It’s fun to show people a reaction. We demanded that from ourselves after last weekend. The team showed this reaction. You notice a certain joy because you have come a few steps closer to your goal. And of course every win is extremely good. Defeats are simply useless, not for teams, not for coaches and not for clubs and the environment.
With the win, Dabro also secured his own job and is now firmly on the 96 bench for the last two games against HSV and Ingolstadt. After that he has to go – farewell to 96 after twelve years. But there is (still) no room for melancholy.
“There are still two games to go,” says Dabro. “Today was really important to take the decisive step. I am fully engrossed in my task.”
Thank you Dabro.
