Half for corrents, the rest in crowns. Parts of Prague distribute virtual currency
With Corrency, residents basically get a discount.
Prague 1 has set aside two million crowns for the project, and will distribute support in the amount of one thousand corrents to the first two thousand applicants who are over 15 years of age and have a permanent residence there. One corrent is equal to one crown.
Upon registration, which includes the conclusion of a donation contract, they enter their telephone number, to which they will receive an SMS message with a unique code. They can then communicate this when paying at some of the recorded establishments in their part of the city, and thus use corrents to pay for up to half of the expenditure.
Seniors also paid with virtual corrents in Kyjov. They bought shoes and medicine the most |
After the customers have been paid, a message will come again informing him either the balance of his corrents or the knowledge that he has already spent them all.
But customers can only make do with an identity card. In this case, it is not necessary to enter a telephone number during registration, and it is sufficient for traders to provide them with an identity card number. The staff enters this into the system when paying, and customers can immediately tell them how many credits they have left.
“The center of Prague is most economically affected by both the pandemic and the situation in Ukraine, especially active tourists,” says Prague 1 City Councilor for Business Support Karel Grabein Procházka (YES 2011), one of the reasons why the city district is launching the project.
Prague 18 has the same conditions, with the difference that Letňany invested only one million crowns in the project, so people will receive only 500 corrents.
Business and fitness support
Although the registration in the first part of the city was to end on Thursday, April 28, only about 700 people and a hundred companies applied by that date. The City Hall will therefore give the possibility of registration during the project itself, until 10 May for traders and by 20 June for interested citizens.
The list of participating companies will be available from Sunday on the praha1.corrency.cz website, where it is also possible to register. You can also apply for the project in the information office of the district office in Vodičkov 681.

Citizens can spend their corrents in local bakeries, florists and other businesses until June. The currency will also apply, for example, to lunches at the Medvídků restaurant.
However, it will not pay for this alternative currency for cigarettes, alcohol, gambling or betting, erotic services or sexual aids, weapons, ammunition and other dangerous items.
According to Councilor Procházka, the Corrency project should also show which establishments the citizens of Prague 1 use and which goods and services they are looking for the most.
The councilor of Prague 18 sees Corrency as another benefit than just supporting purchasing power.
“One of the goals of this project is to enable residents to attend sports and leisure activities more, and thus not only improve the economic situation, but also improve their condition and support their health,” explains Ivan Polák, Councilor for Sports and Grant Policy of Prague 18. ).
In Prague 18, registration was originally scheduled to end on Saturday and should run during May. However, according to Polák, the start of registrations was delayed and so far fewer people, about 400 inhabitants and six traders, have registered here as well. Residents of Letňany can therefore apply until the end of May and the corrents will apply throughout June.
“We now want information about the project among seniors in retirement homes, who always know about it, and in addition, it can be a problem for them to get there,” says Polák, adding that their goal is the participation of two thousand people and forty companies. Residents of Letňany can register either on the website Praha18.corrency.cz, or at the Office of the Prague 18 District in Bechyňská Street in office number 2.05.
One of the places that have already signed up for the project in Prague 18 is the Letňany Lagoon Aquacentre. “The project could be used to move people who at this time say they will save more, for example by not going for a swim,” says Letňany Lagoon CEO Eduard Mikyska.
