Russia and South Africa agreed to expand sports cooperation
Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin held with the President of the South African Sports Confederation and the Olympic Committee of the Republic of South Africa – Barry Hendrix.
“It is symbolic that our meeting takes place on Freedom Day, which is a public holiday in South Africa. South Africa as an important relationship to our country’s partner on the African continent. This fully applies to sports interaction, ”the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation quotes Matytsin as saying.
During the meetings, Matytsin and Hendrixie noted that the common priorities for Russia and South Africa in the sports field are the search for new opportunities for organizations, including within the framework of the BRICS association, in particular for use in the interests of individuals between public sports federations.
As an example, the joint work of the swimming federations of Russia and South Africa on the initiative of the participants with the participation of the BRICS countries was tested, which can serve as a “pilot project” for creating new meeting formats at the BRICS meeting.
The Russian side took the initiative to share special attention to the development of student sports, holding challenge matches in a special kind of university sport. He also proposed to form the BRICS Athletes’ Forum, which should become an important platform for protecting the interests and rights of athletes in the international arena.
