Moscow. 25th of April. Interfax – Russia is on the lookout for 40 employees of the German embassy in Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
“On April 25, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Federation, Geza Andreas von Geyr, was at the Russian Foreign Ministry. (…) The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany received a note declaring forty employees of German institutions in Russia “persona non grata” as a symmetrical response to the decision of the resolution of the Federal Republic of Germany “, – stated in the message of the department, published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It was noted that the official recognition of the mission in Moscow “was a strong protest in connection with the frankly unfriendly definition of the assessment of the Federal Republic of Germany on April 4, 2022 on the declaration of “persona non grata” of forty representatives of Russian positions in Germany.”
“It was emphasized that the Russian side considers unacceptable what the German Federal Foreign Minister Annala Burbock has done in her work, in this step the German authorities are absolutely motivated by the false assertion that the work of employees is connected with undermining the “freedom of Germany” and the “unity” of German society” , as well as insinuations within the framework of the law on Ukraine,” they noted on Smolenskaya Square.
On April 4, the German media reported that the German Foreign Ministry declared “persona non grata” 40 office of the Russian Embassy in Germany. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock confirmed the decision to expel, but did not name the exact number of employees. “The federal government has decided today to announce that this is a threat to those who seek our protection. We will not tolerate this.” Burbock said.
In connection with the same day, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told Interfax: “We will also respond to this evil act of the German political machine.” The next day, she added that “the reaction of the Russian side will be tangible for Germany.” At the same time, it has been strengthened, which Moscow cannot but regard as the “unprecedented decision” of the German side announced on April 4 “as confirmation of Berlin’s openly unfriendly course towards the powerful destruction of the entire complex of bilateral relations with our country.”
