The government side has proposed two-thirds to one-third parliamentary proportions
Budapest – The government parties have proposed two-thirds to one-third parliamentary ratios to the opposition in the negotiations preparing for the formation of the parliament, Máté Kocsis, the leader of the Fidesz faction, told reporters on Monday after the first conciliation.
He reported that he would still have six vice-presidents of the National Assembly, one of whom would be in charge of legislation, two of whom could be filled by members of each of the two opposition lists, and that, as in the previous term, fifteen committees would be formed.
The names of the committees will not change, he reported, and ten party chairmen will continue to lead, just as the proportion of committee vice-chairmen remains the same, with twenty opposition politicians and forty pro-government politicians.
The five opposition-led committees included the National Security, Sustainable Development, Budget, Welfare and Enterprise Development Committees. He said the opposition would also get seven parliamentary clerical seats.
He stated that this is how the will of the electorate prevails, and it is unacceptable that the members of the “Gyurcsány list”, who say they are united, are now figuring out that they are already acting as six parties.
Máté Kocsis also reports that the date of the parliamentary oath is fixed.
The Fidesz politician has stated that the formation of the main representative body is a dignified, solemn moment. Whoever does not attend will not only not have a representative, but will not be elected to a position.
He also reported that the governing parties will ask for the principle of reciprocity to be applied, so if a faction does not vote for pro-government officials, the governing parties will not vote for the officials of the faction concerned either.
Evaluating the conciliation, Máté Kocsis noted that the representatives of DK have repeatedly indicated that what has been said has yet to be negotiated. He also complained that the party that had publicly stated that it would not attend the inaugural meeting had come to allocate committee seats. Máté Kocsis said that he understood this as a matter of authenticity.
He added that András Fekete-Győr (Momentum) – who made the fulfillment of five conditions for his party to participate fully in the parliamentary work during the day – did not speak on the merits of the discussion.
The leader of the Fidesz faction assessed the momentary politician as “entangled in his own foot, deceived himself, unable to get out of it” because he already wanted to retaliate that his party would not attend the inaugural session of parliament, which his own would not allow.
According to the pro-government politician, the momentary politician is wondering how to get the commission positions, so he set a written letter and rules.
According to Máté Kocsis, András Fekete-Győr does not want the government parties to accept these conditions, because taking into account the legislative process and the current political conditions, András Fekete-Győr would not be a member of parliament for a year and a half.
The letter was addressed to the public in order for András Fekete-Győr to save the situation resulting from his bad decision – he said, noting that if the Momentum had seriously considered its conditions, it could submit them to the Parliament.
Questioned, he said, there are expected to be seven opposition and two pro-government factions in Parliament, and that will bring a lot of benefits to the opposition. He mentioned, as an example, that there will be seven opposition speeches before the agenda, while there will be only two pro-government speeches, but that will be the proportion for interpellations, immediate issues and questions. He noted that preparations should be made for the end of parliamentary sessions to be longer than usual.
Máté Kocsis spoke about the fact that the opposition parties should agree among themselves on the list of vice-presidents, committee chairs and committee seats as a result of the list.
The participants representing the Our Country Movement called what was said at the meeting an extremely bad mood, mainly political debate.
Party chairman László Toroczkai said that the debate had unfolded on “how to look at parties”, as some members of the opposition coalition could not get into parliament on their own.
When asked about the distribution of parliamentary posts, he indicated that the leadership of the Committee on Enterprise Development and Agriculture would be close to his party.
Dóra Dúró, the vice-president of Our Country, added: I would like their party to delegate the chairman of the national security committee, they want “a representative of a globalist list” to fill the position “so decisive for the Hungarian nation”.
The other participants in the meeting did not hold a press conference. Negotiations will resume on Wednesday.
