Russia Jordan Belarus deferral of loans worth more than $1 billion 24.04.2022
Russia Belarus Belarus postponed the payment of loan obligations in the amount of more than $ 1 billion – it will be valid for at least a year, said the Minister of Finance of Belarus Yuri Seliverstov.
“As for the Russian Federation, then for a year provided by a deferral of payments – not even for a calendar year, but more. And we don’t see more than 1 billion dollars that should be settled now, ”Seliverstov says on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, he is quoted by RIA News.
The delay granted is a “friendly move” on the Russian side, announced by the head of the department. The standard solution in such a situation is to refinance the loan.
“Now the stakes are quite high, so we agreed on such a scheme. It is new, but given the situation is quite adequate. In fact, this is a refinancing, just for this period, interest is also charged for the use. Good rates, good conditions, so it’s quite comfortable,” Seliverstov explains.
At present, it will not be possible to refinance public debt on the Western market in Belarus, the minister added. The country will make payments on loans to Western creditors, but this is not possible in foreign currency due to restrictions.
At the same time, Belarus has no problems with Russia on the issue of settlements on loans issued, Seliverstov noted. As for the transition to settlements in national currencies, in many agreements the possibility of exclusion in Russian rubles was provided for earlier.
