Turkey has temporarily closed its airspace to US and military aircraft with destinations in Ireland. This was announced on Saturday, April 23, by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
According to him, it was sent to the Russian position in March. Until April, there was time in Moscow to take action to correct US Cavusoglu. According to the president of the Turkish minister, he brought the decision to the attention of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, after which the information was transferred to Russia, Vladimir Putin.
According to Cavusoglu, the Turkish side issued a permit for three months, the validity period expired in the past period. The closure means that Moscow is using the airspace over Iran and Iraq.
The Russian Federation did not officially respond to Turkey’s decision.
The Bosphorus and Dardanelles are closed to Russian ships
On February 28, Turkey, in accordance with the international Montreux Convention on the Status of the Straits, restricted the movement of Russian kings through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.
The Montreaux Convention, adopted in 1936, secured Turkish sovereignty over the straits. On a world scale, they are carried out through their federal authorities of any class. For ships of non-Black Sea powers, restrictions on class and tonnage have been introduced. In wartime – if Turkey is involved in a war or considers it a dangerous war – it has the right to prohibit the passage of any ships through the straits.
In addition, as reported by the AFP agency, Turkey regulates the speed of the Ukrainian armed forces, provides them with strike operational-tactical medium-altitude drones Bayraktar TB2 of the Turkish manufacturer Baykar Makina.
