One of the jewels of Luxembourg: The Mullerthal among the UNESCO Geoparks: “international recognition”
“An indescribable feeling that rewards years of effort”, “world-recognized exceptional geological characteristics”, “an important showcase for the tourist offer in Luxembourg”, “international recognition of the quality of our natural heritage”, “an unique distinction that represents added value for the region”. Congratulations and a very legitimate pride dominated the official speeches, Thursday, during a “life-size” press conference which proposed to Berdorf, at the feet of the “Huel Lee” (hollow rock), the entrance to the “Natur & Geopark Mëllerdall” among the worldwide network of UNESCO Geoparks.
A reward that fell in mid-April 2022 which crowns “years of preparatory work” and intense collaboration between the actors in the field and the eleven municipalities of Beaufort, Bech, Berdorf, Condsdorf, Echternach, Fischbach, Heffingen, Larochette, Rosport-Mompach, Nommen and Waldbillig.
“Words fail me so much on this content, proudly underlines Claude Petit, director of Natur & Geopark Mëllerdall. “It’s really impossible to tell you the enormous time we spent on this application and it was a great team effort by all the players in the region and the country. We promote quality and sustainable tourism to preserve the Mullerthal. We are here in one of the most impressive and spectacular sandstone regions.
In Western Europe, there are few rocks and cliffs like ours and you can discover everything on foot or by bike with very well marked paths and beautiful cycle paths”.
