Train traffic between Ghent and Antwerp severely disrupted after a passenger accident in Beervelde | lochristia
lochristiaDue to a passenger accident near Beervelde station, train traffic between Ghent and Antwerp was substantially disrupted in both directions on Wednesday afternoon. The NMBS put in replacement buses and train traffic had normalized around 7 p.m.
The accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. A bystander saw a person walking on the train tracks as the train approached at full speed. Due to the accident, train traffic between the stations Gent-Sint-Pieters and Lokeren came to a complete standstill.
“Replacement buses will be put in between Ghent and Lokeren,” said Thomas Baeken, mentioned at Infrabel. Train traffic was also diverted as far as possible. That happened via Dendermonde and Mechelen.” In such accidents, it can take up to three hours before train traffic can resume.
The police of the Puyenbroeck zone also came to the scene. “Our services were requested on site to regulate traffic,” spokeswoman Ellen De Ruyck said. Train traffic resumed around 7 p.m.
