Country second refugee quarters opened in Puch
politics
In Puch (Tennengau), the state will turn another temporary hotel into accommodation for war refugees from the Ukraine. Because of a renewed offensive by Russia, the country expects that more people from Ukraine will soon seek protection with us.
Around 3,000 refugees have arrived in Salzburg since the outbreak of war. Almost 2,000 stayed. The new quarters were fixed on Tuesday evening during a coordination meeting with all those who deal with displaced persons. According to the Red Cross, the 7-Days Hotel near the motorway exit will be open to 300 refugees from the beginning of May.
Few refugees on the labor market so far
Main topic number two is the employment of refugees in the Salzburg labor market. Two questions above all had to be clarified: How do they learn the Ukrainian language and how are the children properly looked after in the meantime. However, only a few refugees are actually looking for work, says the spokesman for the state governor. The longer the war lasts and the longer people live here, the more people would want to work. In this case, the labor market service is already asking about the qualifications of the war refugees when they register.
The use of the coordination talks by the volunteers, who would make a considerable contribution apart from the state and large organizations, was praised.
School classes in Wals-Siezenheim
In Wals-Siezenheim, the municipality is already opening several school classes only for Ukrainian refugee children. The first refugee hotel, the Austria Trend Hotel near the airport, is located on Walser Grund. It’s only a few journeys from the 450-bed hotel to the Wals-Viehhausen school center, says Walser mayor Joachim Maislinger – there’s even a bus that goes there, which can be adapted to the timetable.
It could be expanded to four classes, says Maislinger. The education department would then only have to send more teachers, which shouldn’t be that easy.
