The second series of the “Foundation” series from Apple TV is being filmed in Prague Film and Television News (Jason Pirodsky)
Last week, the second series of the sci-fi series Foundation, which is filming Apple TV based on novels by Isaac Asimov, began filming in Prague. It will be filmed in the Czech Republic until June, with Prague being the main filming location for the second season of the series.
One of Apple TV’s largest and most ambitious productions, the Foundation’s second season, began filming in the Canary Islands shortly before moving to Prague.
The foundation was created by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman, who previously collaborated on the series Terminator:
The Foundation’s second season is expected to move into new and different worlds from Asimov’s series, which could include locations in Prague and the Czech Republic.
“With the second season, our guests will visit more of Asimov’s indelible characters and worlds, including Hober Mallow, General Bel Rios and all the Outer Suns,” Goyer told Newsweek.
“We are playing a long game with the Foundation and I am grateful to my partners from Apple and Skydance for entrusting me with this epic. Fasten your seatbelts. We are going to make a complicated space. ”
The Foundation joins an increasing number of epic sci-fi and fantasy series filmed in Prague, following the series Kolo času, whose second series is also being shot in the Czech capital, and Carval Row, which completed its second series in Prague last year.
Two decades ago, the miniseries Dune and Children of the Dune were also shot in Prague, and recent films about the Dune by Denis Villeneuve were shot in nearby Budapest.
The Foundation’s first-season production was significantly delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and lasted a total of nineteen months. It was originally intended to be filmed in London, but production was moved mainly to Malta; scenes were also filmed in Tenerife and Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
In addition to Harris and Pace, the main actors Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann and Cassian Bilton are confirmed, who will return to the Foundation’s second series.
The cast of Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Wheel of Time), Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Ben Daniels, Mikael Persbrandt, Rachel House and Nimrat Kaur was also confirmed.
Episodes of the Foundation’s first season were directed by Rupert Sanders (this year he is going to shoot a new adaptation of Crow in Prague), Alex Graves (Game of Thrones) and Goyer, who is also the Foundation’s showrunner.
Apple TV has currently extended the Foundation’s ten-part second season, but Goyer plans more for more.
“The Game of Thrones was truly the first of these big, giant novel series,” he told Newsweek.
“And now, with the Foundation, we can tell a story, hopefully, over 80 episodes or 80 hours, as opposed to trying to cram everything into two or three hours for one movie.”
The release date of the Foundation’s 2nd series on Apple TV has not yet been confirmed, but expect the series to air in late 2022 or early 2023.
