The falcon announces its best. Favorites are athlete Desenský or swordsman Choupenitch
On Tuesday, April 19, the Czech Sokol Community will announce the winners of the traditional “Sokol of the Year” poll. It is not just about sports results, cultural and educational activities are also evaluated. Athletes Michal Desenský, gymnast David Jessen and especially swordsman Alexander Choupenitch, bronze from the Olympic Games in Tokyo, will all be great favorites for the victory in the category of athletes.

The announcement will take place in Tyrš’s house in Prague-Újezd from 5 pm in the large gym. The survey announces the best athlete (age categories under 18, under 23, adults), the best sports team, coach and individuals in team sports. In addition to athletes, the Versatility Trainer, the Discovery of the Year of Versatility Award, the Cultural Deed of the Year, the Educational Deed of the Year are also announced, and the Alois Hudec Fair Play Award is also given.
“I am very excited about the sports results of our members. It is gratifying how much diversity and representation of individual sports Sokol has in the field of performance sports. I really appreciate the work of all trainers, coaches and trainers. Sokol is moving forward and I appreciate the innovation in the area of activities such as parkour, circus skills or a shift in the education of our trainers, “describes Mayor Hana Moučková.
Awarded personalities or divisions are selected across the entire movement and all fields of falconry. The Czech representatives, people who devote their free time to young people, either as trainers or their leaders of Sokol cultural ensembles, or those falcons who made a significant contribution to the development of their community and civic life last year, stand side by side on the ceremonial stage. also important guests of the evening – the chairman of the WWTP Jiří Kejval, the chairman of the ČUS Miroslav Jansta or historically the second most successful Czech player of the North American NBA Jiří Welsch. The whole late afternoon will be accompanied by a rich accompanying program.
“Last year was also an Olympic year and the bar is therefore set very high. Sokol athletes, fencers, gymnasts and wrestlers have been doing well for a long time. We have quality dancing couples, beauty rides and acrobatic rock’n’rolls from non-Olympic sports, “says Petr Syrový, head of the ČOS sports department.
Sokol roku has been announced since 2019 and follows up on the ČOS Most Successful Athlete poll, which focused only on Sokol performance sports. However, Sokol’s activities are much broader, so we decided to extend the prestigious award to other outstanding personalities from our ranks.
The director of the ČOS Office, Marek Tesař, adds: “Our goal is to show the general public the diversity of Sokol’s scope, the present and the shift to modern physical activities. It is recommended to support everything with a new visual appearance, which preserves the traditional elements, but it is a signal that Sokol goes further, looks to the future and offers interesting possibilities of use from sports to culture in the current time. “
