Less imports of eggs in stores
Budapest – Kev’s eggs from abroad in stores, but missing them is not a threat even in the days before Easter, the Egg Association told MTI on Tuesday.
The decline in imports was explained by the war in Ukraine, as the EU market is largely made up of settlements in the vicinity of Kharkov and Mariupol, ie in the area of military operations. Ukraine has previously benefited from more than 23 imports into the EU. The EU is self-sufficient in all eggs, so the decline in imports does not cause a shortage, it has only eliminated oversupply, he explained.
They added that the demand market favors producers as they can pass on the increase in costs in their prices for the first time in a long time. They can’t do it any other way, as their income barely covers their expenses. The rise in the price of fodder, which accounts for 70 percent of production costs, has been significant and has only increased this year, also due to the war. So you don’t have to pay more for eggs because of Easter.
The Egg Association has expressed that consumer prices are not shaped by producers either, the store margin depends on the decision of traders. Therefore, the rise in prices is not expected to dampen demand, as in previous years, domestic consumption could be 2.3 billion units this year, they said.
