Tommy Cash belongs more to the festival than to Roxy
“Hooray, concert!” Just that average. Tommy Cash, a rapper often nicknamed “Kanye West East”, filled the premises of the Prague club Roxy twice in a row. And judging by the first stop, he could push a little harder in his efforts. More in the report.

Is it still music? That was the question one had to ask if he came to the solidly crowded Roxy Club that April evening. After all, Tommy Cash is much better known today as a creator of bizarre memes. Maybe the most bizarre ever. But how much do you really know about his lyrics? And is there anything at all about them? That’s the second thing. But no matter how you answer those questions, the fact remains that Tommy’s music is supposed to support the extraordinary aura that prevails around him. It is unmissable. And once you see it, you’ll remember 100 percent. I remember the first time I had the honor. In 2018 he performed at the German festival Melt !. And even though there were excavators, mining machines, and a lot of people with shiny fringed pants, an undershirt, and creatively knitted headbands all around, he stood out among them. Musically and visually. The same was true for the Aerodrome festival, where he raped an otherwise more guitar-like line-up with his rap. A year later, he unwrapped it on Rock For People and people watched there as well. Instead of a traditional project, he played regular porn there as an accompaniment to his rap.

So it was like to surprise Roxy’s visitors in a similar way. And to show that even a club concert can have the stamp of something special and unforgettable. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Only a seventy-minute set without a jumper escaped quickly. In addition, Tommy went backstage in the middle for a good ten minutes and his DJ behind the mixing desk played a strange remix of English-singing dads. His own music sounded from halfplayback, where the choruses and the rapper himself sang here and there a few lines occasionally barked at that, but the adjective would suit him better hecovac.
He has been teasing the audience since the first “X-Ray”, which is just a pretty good and memorable song. In addition, he was colored by a projection mixing shots of games from Playstation 2, especially “Final Fantasy”. Later, however, the projections did not catch up with him. run Occasionally, even if the music stopped. And while the lyrics to Siri were in progress, the song of the same name was not heard until a few minutes later. Better synchronization would be in place here. The protagonist alternately encouraged jumping, squatting with a jump, a circle of pit, lighting up mobile phones or stagediving of one of his friends. But one could not remember the HP Baxxter from the Scooter trio, who conducted it quite similarly years ago. And even the rave music was quite familiar at times.

The illuminator, who was given the color of most of the songs in the manual, which he should use, but sometimes could unleash his imagination, helped the resulting effect, and the stroboscopes didn’t have time to turn it off. And even though a mud ass, lego, or a doll with Michael Jackson’s face eventually appeared on the screening, it was kind of lukewarm overall. Not bad, but not such that you would tell your friends for another month. Just lukewarm. When you see Tommy Cash at a festival among a lot of other bands, you hear the strange and yet attractive music that caresses the nineties of disco and rap rather parodies, it has unquestionable charisma. It will captivate you with debauchery, will save you the effort and will often unknowingly force you to endure until the end of the set. You are simply waiting to be tense about what else the bizarre will happen. But it’s not like that at the club. There you go ready, and there are no surprises. So, if you’re not surprised, you can buy a poster with sexual positions, a doormat in front of the door or a 50-inch plush joint at the merchandise stand. And when you can still feel from the concert that even the central one interpreted it a bit like the last time, you’d better wait for another festival next time.
