The Ministry of Eastern Development of Russia, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology participating in the merger
The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology signed an agreement on global cooperation.
“The Far East and the Arctic are a territory with extreme climatic conditions. Cooperation with MIPT – leadership in the development of world-class technologies – is very important. The Snezhinka Arctic station, technologies related to sustainable, probable, energy supply of hard-to-reach remote sources of consumption are promising and vital for the Far Eastern and Northern regions of our country,” commented Aleksey Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, commented on the signed documents.
“It is important that technological projects in the Arctic and the Far East be implemented on the basis of Russian technologies and Russian equipment. MIPT is a technological source. We have experience in developing not only software and control systems, but also devices that can be replicated and quickly put into production,” said MIPT Rector Dmitry Livanov.
During his visit to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Alexey Chekunkov got acquainted with the scientific and applied developments of the Institute. Among them: hardware and software systems for ice exploration, real-time transferable data on the ice reception area, hybrid energy complexes for remote settlements using various types of generation, including hydrogen energy, innovations in the field of geological exploration, telecommunications and communications. The project of creating the world’s first carbon-free autonomous scientific and educational energy complex at the Snezhinka hydrogen arctic station was discussed.
MIPT intends to expand the implementation of the Talent in the Regions program jointly with the Far Eastern Federal University within the framework of the Priority 2030 project to other universities and research organizations in the Arctic region and the Far East. The purpose of the project is to increase the level of education programs in the field of physics, mathematics, computer technology in the use of universities. First of all, in standard cases, which prepare engineering personnel. This requires an increase in professional education for applicants – there is no need to leave for Moscow or St. Petersburg if high-quality educational programs are implemented in the request request with the involvement of MIPT students.
“There are groundwork in the Far East – universities and scientific institutions have been created, which should become centers of international level. There is an interest in interaction with FEFU from Asian centers. An Innovative Science and Technology Center is being designed on English Island. MIPT, being a storehouse of technologies and personnel, combines new developments with traditions and innovative flows. This is the key to success. For rectors and regions, the new track is very important. Thanks to such support from the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. This, of course, is necessary in the mainstream of the scientific and educational mix,” said Alexey Chekunkov.
In 2021 – 2023 Russia chairs the Arctic Council. Among the priorities of the Russian chairmanship is to increase the efficiency of activities and the practical effectiveness of its scientific results in the Arctic. Russia uses the optimization of the use of scientific resources and the promotion of the use of new technologies. One of the largest Russian scientific projects in the Arctic is the construction of the Snezhinka international Arctic station. A project focused on research in the field of carbon-free energy was launched in Russia at the Arctic Council working group on sustainable development in 2019 and was supported by a simple Arctic Council. The Roscongress Foundation acts as the operator of the events of the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
