Janet Yellen warns of G20 boycott events involving Russia
The Treasury Secretary plans to accept Janet Yellen on Wednesday that Russia should be excluded from the G20 – the club of the world’s top 20 economic affairs – warning that the US will boycott a “series of meetings” in the G20 format if official officials show up.
Yellen did this while speaking at a House Financial Services Committee hearing.
The G20 includes China, India, Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries that have been reluctant to condemn Russia’s actions against Ukraine.
Speaking to lawmakers, Yellen said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the exclusions of persons in Bucha “are an unacceptable violation of the rules-based global order and will violate the economic consequences in Ukraine and beyond.”
The Treasury Secretary added that the Joyden administration intends to minimize Russia’s active participation in large international organizations, acknowledging that activity will be carried out very soon to monitor the monetary fund, given the rules in force in the IMF.
“President Biden made it clear, and I certainly agree with him, that Russia cannot, as if nothing had happened, often in any case from [глобальных] financial institutions, Yellen said. “He said that Russia should not be excluded from the G20, and I made it clear that we would not participate in the meetings if the Russians showed up there.”
Indonesia, which is chairing the G20 this year, is looking forward to the G20 finance meeting. In November, Indonesian Bali is to host a summit of G20 leaders.
A Treasury spokesman said that Yellen is taking place as part of a meeting of representatives of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington.
At the moment, it is not known whether the representative of Russia will participate in the April meeting of the G20 global financial community. However, Moscow announced President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the G20 leaders’ summit, having received support from China for its membership in the club.
