VIDEO: Activists again blocked traffic in Prague today. For the fourth time this week Transport News Pražská Drbna
Extinction Rebellion Czech Republic activists gathered at the Jan Palach Square in front of the building of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague this morning to eight o’clock in the morning to get to the continuation of a series of protests. By means of traffic blockades, activists want the government to adopt a regulation limiting the temperature in the commercial sector, offices and schools to the statutory temperature minimum.
Today, before half past seven, the activists sat at a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Tomášská and Letenská streets near Malostranské náměstí. This is the fourth blockade this week, on Monday activists blocked traffic on Vítězné náměstí, on Tuesday on Nuselský most and on Wednesday in Žitná street.
The police were on the scene in about ten minutes. The protest ended after about a quarter of an hour. “Persons are suspected of an offense against public order and face a fine of up to ten thousand crowns,” said a police spokesman after the first protest for Pražská Drbna Jan Danek.
“Our request is very realistic and easy to fulfill. We are not asking for a ban on Russian gas imports. We just want the government to order restrictions on its consumption. Such a regulation would be extremely effective: at a minimum for maximum performance. People are dying and it is completely immoral to fund the Russian invasion of Ukraine so that we can work in overheated offices. The heating season ends in May at the latest. I don’t see a reason why we can’t limit heating for a short time, ” wrote a spokeswoman for the Extinction Rebellion Czech Republic Veronika Holcnerová on Facebook.
