The Government of the Republic of Moldova has decided to reorganize the single refugee crisis management center. It will be transferred to the platform of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in order to streamline inter-institutional processes. The decision was made because the number of Ukrainian refugees is declining. However, the authorities point out that the Russian-Ukrainian war is continuing and that the flow of refugees could increase again at any time.
DUMITRU UDREA, Secretary General of the Government: “As long as the flow of refugees from Ukraine continues, and the approximately 96 thousand refugees in the Republic of Moldova need help, the existence of such help is a natural decision. We will focus on measures and policies to mitigate the impact of this crisis. “
To date, more than 50,000 refugees from the Republic of Moldova have benefited from basic necessities and shelter. Authorities have announced that as of today, food for the refugees will be bought with money provided by Moldova’s foreign partners.
ADRIAN EFROS, Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the National Army: “We will continue to distribute products according to the needs and requests received from the center and the local public administrations. The existence of the center is also necessary to ensure emergency response in the event of an increase in the flow of refugees. “
According to official data, between February 27 and March 31, more than 360 thousand refugees arrived in the Republic of Moldova, and two thirds of them continued on their way to the countries of the European Union. During this period, they have over nine thousand refugees on the green line. Most of them requested shelter, food and hygiene.
The Republic of Moldova has received almost 300 lots of unamita aid worth over 7 million euros. At the same time, donor countries transferred almost 3 million euros to the Chisinau government for refugee management.
