Russia accredits first Taliban diplomat
The first diplomat of Afghanistan’s new resolution, formed by the outlawed Taliban, has been accredited to Russia. About it declared Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to him, the diplomat arrived in Moscow during the meeting.
At a meeting of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, Lavrov noted that the Taliban administration “on the whole managed to correct the state’s safety afloat.” According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the main trouble for decision-making is his new lack of representativeness: power belongs to the various political forces that exist in Afghanistan, Lavrov said.
- The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in early August 2021 and received high praise, which the world community considers illegitimate. The Taliban movement has recognized what happened in many countries of the world, including Russia. However, Russia regularly holds meetings with the Taliban in Moscow.
- In October, Vladimir Putin announcedthat Russia will “move” towards removing the Taliban from the list of terrorists. In November, the state press was instructed to remove the appropriate labeling from stories about the Taliban.
- 17 March United Nations Security Council voted establishing official ties with Afghanistan. In connection with the detention of a member of the United Nations in Afghanistan, the Taliban are not mentioned. Russia seized on the vote.
