The complete renovation and expansion of the main road is necessitated by the significant border crossing traffic due to the proximity of Romania, as well as the increased proportion of daily commuting to Debrecen in the smaller settlements.
This will make the structural approach to the eastern part of Debrecen safer and faster, thus creating significant economic and infrastructural value in the life of the region.
For safer traffic, level junctions have been built at the accident hubs. More than 24 of the originally 100 road connections for parallel service trips will be eliminated, which will also help very well in hazardous situations.
The milestone in the life of the project was when, in 2020, NIF Zrt. All of this required the accident-free approach of the cyclist. Due to the new task, the project completion deadline has been postponed to 31 May 2022.
To date, the 48th. the removal and widening of the affected 11.5 tonne section of the main road section, which will be strengthened
traffic restrictions will be lifted from the previous 24.9 km to about 17 km.
In the period of about 2 months ahead, the contractor will still be working. Among other things, the works for the replacement of the utilities as well as the construction of the strip railings, road connections and parallel task service roads have not yet been completed.
During construction, about 32,000 m3 asphalt and nearly 50,000 m3 ckt concrete was incorporated as well
In addition to the main road, more than 7.3 km of paved service roads will be built, which, in addition to the safe transport of local cars, will facilitate cycling and prepare for the connection to the long-distance cycle path between Panoráma út roundabout and Vámospércs.
Péter Szijjártó Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said at the event: “In Hungary, the political stability of the last twelve years, which is unparalleled in European comparison, has guaranteed that we were able to deliver on what we promised, because it was worthwhile to agree with us, because the agreements were followed by them. It was such a clear goal that citizens, no matter how small they live in the city, could reach a point on the motorway network in no more than half an hour from their place of residence, and that all elements of the latter should reach the border, he pointed out. Thirty new cross-border road connections have been handed over since 2010, increasing their number from 83 to 113 during this period. Two new expressways have been set up on the Romanian border and ten border crossings have been opened with weekend opening hours. Part of this is the 26.5-kilometer-long section between Debrecen and Nyírábrány, which has been rebuilt with the most HUF 18.5 billion from the European Union and made the road safer and with a higher load capacity (11.5 tons). ”
