Over 10,000 servicemen killed in Ukraine
US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said that, according to Washington, more than 10,000 Russian servicemen were killed during the more than a month-long war in Ukraine.
In an interview with Current Time, Nuland called his share “incredible”, noting that, despite this, “Russia has not yet fully determined how strong the Ukrainian army is.”
Nuland did not provide specific sources for his assessment. Previously, US intelligence sources had given similar figures. The Russian Defense Ministry has other data. It last reported casualties on 25 March and then confirmed the deaths of 1,351 troops. The assessment of the General Staff of Ukraine is more than 17,000 dead Russian soldiers.
Independent verification of data on losses in the context of ongoing hostilities is extremely difficult. Well-known names in the places of hundreds of dead among the military.
In an interview with Current Time, Nuland said that the decision of the Russian Defense Ministry to stop attacking Kyiv and Chernihiv was the result of the stubborn defense of the Ukrainian army. At the same time, she noted that Russian troops are regrouping and amassing, possibly in other regions of Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated in the sphere of the external environment that “a planned regrouping of troops is taking place in the Kiev and Chernigov directions” in order to intensify actions “in priority areas”, primarily in the Donbass, thereby actually confirming the most ambitious assessments of the Ukrainian side and the United States.
