Fleretist Choupenitch shone, enjoying the partner finals at home
Czech flutist Alex Choupenitch won the Brno Sokol Cup. He defeated teammate Marek Totuška in Saturday’s final. “The Czechia has never had the first two places here,” rejoices the bronze medalist from the last Olympic Games, who presented himself at home for the first time since the aforementioned games in Tokyo.
Choupenitch introduced himself at the tournament, which is regularly organized by his parent club, after three years. “The Sokol Cup had a break due to coronavirus, but now it’s back. I’m really glad that I managed to win again, “says the Brno native after the event, which started with about seventy fencers from all over Europe.
Meanwhile, Choupenitch is currently in full preparation for the World Cup tournament in Belgrade, which is scheduled for mid-April. “It was difficult for me because I had a really challenging training week in terms of physical condition. However, with the fitness trainer, we still said that I would manage the tournament despite the difficult preparation, ”Choupenitch continues.
In the final, the bronze medalist from Tokyo defeated a national teammate, a great friend and still nineteen-year-old Marek Totušek, with whom both belong to the University Sports Center of the Ministry of Education. “We had such partner finals,” laughs the 27-year-old fleretist.
“It’s also a great result for Marek and for Czech fencing in general. I don’t think the Czechia has ever had the first two places at the Sokol Cup, or at least I don’t remember. I’m really happy about that, “concludes Choupenitch.
