Prague handed over six vehicles to rescuers in Ukraine
The vehicles left the Kundratka complex on Thursday in Prague and were transported to Ukraine by members of the Czech Red Cross.
“Three Mercedes SU 280 SUVs have landed on Ukraine. Medical crews ride with them in Prague. We also handed over two repatriation cars. We call them ‘dwellers’ because they could easily live in them. These cars are designed to be used to transport patients over longer distances or to provide facilities for health professionals at various events. In recent years, mainly teams that took samples for testing on the covid-19 have traveled with them in Prague, “said Jana Poštová, a spokeswoman for the Prague rescuers.
“The sixth and final car is the Atego high-capacity special. In the ten years we have had him, Atego has been involved in almost every emergency, be it a car accident or a fire. It can deal with any terrain, we remember, for example, how it passed through a plowed field during a bus accident near Horoměřice. It will certainly manage the ruined Ukrainian cities. In addition, several patients can be transported at once, ”added Poštová.
In all cases, these were older vehicles for which the Prague ambulance already planned to replace them with new cars. For example, the large-capacity special Atego served the Prague rescuers for 11 years.
During that time, the ambulance intervened with him in 800 emergencies, including fires, mass accidents, or health problems in a large number of children at children’s camps.
A newer large-capacity special Fénix will remain in Prague, for which the ambulance plans to purchase another vehicle. In addition, the Prague Rescue Service has a rescue truck called the Golem.
“To all this, we are adding 20 power plants to the Ukrainian rescuers, which will be used to produce electricity in the event of outages in the normal network.
Everything that goes to Ukraine is fully operational and reliable. We are convinced that the impact of this assistance on the provision of care to our patients will be minimal in Prague, and we anticipate that cars will be gradually replaced in the vehicle fleet, ”the spokeswoman added.
