The first application of electrochemotherapy at the Hippocratic Hospital was successful
The first application of its innovative method electrochemotherapy at the Hospital of Venereal and Dermatological Diseases of Thessaloniki of GNTH IPPOKRATIO was successfully held on March 10.
NANDTH is the first center in the country where electrochemical treatment is now available. It is an innovative treatment method for the treatment of difficult skin tumors and skin metastases that combines the application of cytostatic drug and high frequency electrical pulses.
The first patient to have the method has advanced kaposi sarcoma, a skin tumor commonly associated with herpesvirus 8 (HHV 8). The application was carried out with the participation of the team of Dermatologists, Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons and Anesthesiologists from the Dermatology-Oncology Department of Ippokratio Hospital. The response of the tumor to the treatment was highly satisfactory without complications and the treatment is not repeated, says Hippocrates in a statement.
Electrochemical therapy completes the range of treatment of skin tumors as it offers a therapeutic outlet in conditions that can not be treated with other available (local, surgical or systemic) methods.
