Zurich Airport President Andreas Schmid resigns | Company Switzerland
(AWP) At Zurich Airport (FHZN 166.50 -0.36%) there will be a change in the board of directors next year. The long-standing president of the body, Andreas Schmid, will not stand for re-election at the 2023 General Assembly, as the airport announced on Thursday.
Schmid has held this position since Flughafen Zürich AG was founded. Now he has decided “as part of long-term succession planning” not to start for a new term next year. The Board of Directors proposes Josef Felder, the traditional CEO of Flughafen Zürich AG and a long-standing member of the Board of Directors, as his successor.
Felder, who has been a member of the board since 2017, will be proposed for the office of Vice President at the forthcoming General Assembly in April this year. According to the announcement, he is a proven aviation and airport expert and has been a full-time member of the Board of Directors since 2008.
The commitment of Andreas Schmid is described in the communication as extremely successful and the still incumbent President is thanked. During this time, the company’s value increased “many times over” and serious crises such as the bankruptcy of the Swissair Group and the corona pandemic were overcome on their own. In addition, all of the defining structures at the airport were created under his leadership, including the Airside Center, several docks and the new Circle.
