Foreign airlines spend $37.5 million on flying around Russia due to airspace closures allocated in the press service of the Ministry of Transport.
“It seems that the additional costs of carriers in 19 countries (USA, Canada, UK, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Finland, France, Switzerland, Sweden) in terms of restrictions on the use of Russian airspace amount to almost $37.5 million,” the statement said.
The department also applies an increase in flight times. For example, earlier the flight distance from London to Tokyo through Russia was 9.5 thousand km, and now it is 11.2 thousand km. “Thus, alternative routes have significantly increased the flight time – by almost two hours,” the Ministry of Transport calculated.
“Of course, we were not interested in bringing out any restrictions for carriers. – said Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev.
