Toulouse: Short films and towers
For three days (March 18, 19 and 20), the production company DEFI met in place for a new edition of the short film festival “Des Courts en Bas des Tours”. A bridge for young people who want to discover the cinema professions.
It is because Meryem-Bahia Arfaoui pushed the door of the DEFI Production association at La Reynerie that she was able to make “Les Crapules”, her first short film in July 2020. This film won the Grand Jury Prize of the “Des Courts en Bas des Tours” festival. It is precisely this animation which presents three days of short films free of charge on March 18, 19 and 20.
“DEFI Production was created on January 29, 2019 at La Reynerie by Camille Montalan, who has since become director, recalls Soumaya Koubaa, chief operator and in charge of communication. This structure trains free of charge and highlights young people from the region or elsewhere, designated by the cinema trades (sound recording, filming, filmmaking, scriptwriting, postproduction, etc.) but which lack the network to break through”. A place that accompanies and helps them. Speakers from the cinema come to give lessons. “There are several possibilities, continue Soumaya. Either they are young people very motivated by the 7th art, who know what they want to do. Or young people curious about a set, the profession of technician and who want to train in filming”.
Nine months of daily classes around thirteen subjects inherent to the profession are necessary to become a director. With the writing, editing and distribution of a film.
Young people from all over France come to follow this training
Young people from all over France come to follow this training. Some are also settling in Toulouse, for that. “There are also young people from the neighborhood eagerly awaited by the profession of actor, writing and directing. In fact, everyone has their vocation.
Among the highlights of this festival, note the presence on Friday of Yohan Manca, director of the film “My brothers and me”. We can also mention Saturday, the animated film “Pil” by Julien Fournet before the award by the jury, Sunday of the various prizes.
