Russia is interested in a gas pipeline for the Taliban
Russia may take part in the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, Alexander Blokhin said
Russia is interested in the TAPI gas pipeline project, which will pass through Turkmenistan, India and Afghanistan, where the Taliban militants seized power (the organization is under UN sanctions in connection with the ongoing activities). This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Alexander Blokhin.
“The construction of this gas pipeline in no way infringes on the interests of the Russian Federation. In Turkmenistan, where pipelines have already been laid, pipes of our Russian company are being supplied – this was a $300 million project. In this situation, the Taliban publicly declared that they are the holders of this pipeline and are ready for its security, ”Blokhin said in an interview with TASS.
The ambassador noted that the gas pipeline could give Afghanistan a lot of useful things. “This is the development of the economy and so on. Finally, this pipeline, in addition to all use, would be guaranteed by solid revenues to the budget and to jobs. So from the point of view of the Taliban, they have a positive attitude towards this, ”said Blokhin.
The TAPI project has been underway since 2015. Its total cost exceeds $10 billion. One of the main targets of the pipeline is Central and South Asia. In 2018, the project was suspended after experiments were discovered in Afghanistan that examined the construction site of the gas pipeline. RT.
