The Central Bohemian Region is ending with a free fare for seniors over the age of 70, and is introducing nationwide bicycle tickets
Tariff changes also respond to restrictions on state-mandated discounts.
The councilors of the Central Bohemian Region today approved a change in the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) and Central Bohemian Integrated Transport (SID) tariffs. A major change will be the end of the free ride for seniors over 70, introduced by the previous regional government.
In addition, it also introduces discounts for holders of a War Veteran’s Card, as well as the unification of the transport price list for seniors 70+ and the introduction of a PID travel document for the transport of bicycles in rail transport. Furthermore, the tariffs take into account changes in state-imposed discounts, ie a reduction of the discount from 75 to 50%.
Until now, the Central Bohemian Region has provided free fares for seniors 70+ in the Central Bohemian Region only on buses, passengers have to buy a travel document on trains, there is no time coupon. After this cancellation of the category, the senior 70+ will ride the same as the senior 65+, so they will have the cancellation of the category discounts from the state, they may have the same travel rules for bus and train transport.
“The price that new passengers in this category will pay is definitely not enormously high, as there may be time coupons, for which we also see a long-term growing demand. Most often, seniors travel short distances within two to three lanes,“Said Petr Borecký, Councilor for Public Transport.
Round: 80 CZK / day
The tariff for bicycle transport is also changing. At present, in the PID tariff, bicycles are transported on trains only in the territory of Prague; in the Central Bohemian Region, the PID tariff for bicycles does not exist with the offer of cycle bus lines. The passenger is dependent only on the different tariffs of the respective carriers. The aim of this tariff adjustment is to simplify passenger check-in for bicycles throughout the PID area. “We have been recording long-term demand for bicycle transport from our railway carriers, however, the current capacity of railway carriers to transport bicycles is limited. It is therefore not possible to offer a free bicycle ticket for a time fare. In this context, we propose a so-called individual ticket for CZK 30 for 120 minutes and an all-day ticket for CZK 80, “ added Borecký
War veterans will have travel for 365 crowns for 365 days. The condition will be the ownership of the Certificate of a participant in the resistance against communism or the Certificate / ID of a war veteran. To obtain a discount, a person must have a PID Lítačky. “With an annual coupon for a symbolic 365 CZK for more than 15,000 war veterans living in the Czech Republic, we want to express our opinion for their actions and courage. Especially nowadays, it must be constantly remembered that people who are fighting or have fought for freedom and democracy deserve our recognition.“Explains the councilor for public transport Borecký.
Tariff adjustments have yet to be approved by the regional council.
