It is a question of whether we will get the money at Sberbank, admitted the head of hockey Kometa Zábranský | Ice Hockey Sport | Brněnská Drbna
The Brno Comet solves the economic problems that have affected the club as a result of events in Ukraine. The comet has deposited money with the Russian Sberbank, which has closed its branches in the Czech Republic. The question is whether and when we will get to those finances, the owner Libor Zábranský admitted in an interview for the club website.
Like its subsidiaries, the Brno Kometa has accounts with Sberbank. The bank, which is linked to Russia, closed its domestic branches at the end of February, leaving clients uncertain. “It’s a problem because all these companies have operating money and we can’t get to it. We have to set up accounts elsewhere and wait to see what happens. The question is whether and when we will get to that money. ” explained the boss and coach of the hockey club Zábranský.
Sberbank clients receive their money back from Wednesday through the Czech branches of Komerční banka. According to the law, however, only deposits up to 100,000 euros are insured, which does not solve the problems of the Brno team.
The club is also dealing with the consequences of the war in Ukraine in connection with the construction of a new multifunctional hall, which will stand at the Brno Exhibition Center. Plans to operate it are complicated by the uncertain economic situation, which includes a sharp rise in electricity prices and an unpredictable rate of inflation. “The last two years have been economically turbulent. It’s hard to predict what will happen next. Fourteen days ago, would any of the normal people have wondered what will happen in Ukraine? ” explained Zábranský, who returned to the extra-league team last year.
The club also responded to the situation in Ukraine by giving relief flights to refugees. The comet plans to accommodate 60 people in its South Moravian guesthouses. He also wants to accept small hockey players from the Kiev hockey club who have found refuge in Brno. The Brno team will also help families with children with the proceeds from the auction of a special set of jerseys.
