“I unequivocally condemn the Russian attack on your country and the Ukrainian people. I consider the aggression of the Russian Federation against your sovereign state to be unjustifiable, “Bishop Isaiah, vicar of the Olomouc-Brno eparchy, wrote in a letter to the Ukrainian ambassador to Ukraine on the second day after the invasion.
The Brno priest Jozef Fejsak also provides a similar spirit. “It is a great tragedy. And we pray that the war will stop, that there will be peace. Every bloodshed is terrible, “said Fejsak, who took part in Sunday’s demonstration against the war on Dominican Square in Brno.
Both clergy, who have been in dispute over the leadership of the Brno community in recent months, are preparing help for refugees. “We will hold a collection on Sunday. Ukraine is supported by a large number of people and we are trying to help as much as we can, “said Fejsak.
“We are ready to help refugees, for example, with accommodation, financially or some collection, depending on current needs. Of course, we will work with other organizations that help refugees, “said Bishop Isaiah.
According to him, Orthodox believers are also united in their opinion of the current situation. “Everyone is sad about it. “Probably no one believed that this could happen until the last moment,” said Isaiah. The Orthodox Church also called on believers to fast and pray for peace in Ukraine.
At the same time, she is far from the only one involved in helping the victims of the war. The immediate invasion of Russia by Ukraine provided solidarity with the Christian Church and other religious communities. The Roman Catholic Church, for example, serves Mass for Peace and society in a collection organized by the Church Charity Czech Republic. Pope Francis also called on Christians to pray for Ukraine.
