Two of the 17 sailors who were stranded on the Rozhen ship in the Ukrainian port of Chernomorsk have returned to Bulgaria. announced BNT.
The rest of our compatriots are still on board the vessel. The cargo ship, owned by the Bulgarian Navy, docked at the port two days before the war began.
Our team in Varna talks to the two sailors who have returned to Bulgaria. The day after the start of the war in Ukraine, the two sailors saw from the ship how the bombs fell in the city of Chernomorsk. They want to evacuate, but the captain assures them that the vessel is safer.

“There is a sunken barge in front of the port, there is no way out, the beach is mined, explosions are heard near us, I learned from my colleagues that missiles were fired from there, this is air defense,” said Boris Kontrov.
“I was personally with the boatswain, and when I went on deck I saw the rocket launch. It was 500 meters from our ship,” added chef Radostin Sirkov.
When they decide to evacuate, the captains accuse the two sailors on Saturday of trying to endanger the lives of the rest of the crew.
“This is the fear – not to lose your job. They prefer to die there. Today they asked 4 people from the crew to evacuate, I hope God be with them,” said Boris Kontrov.
The sailors managed to evacuate the Bulgarians with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the help of Ukrainians.
“We did not cooperate with the captain, including when everything was arranged for our descent, he did not give us money, the bus tickets and agency money were paid by the Ukrainians,” added Boris Kontrov.
“I want to ask if their sons are on this ship, how they would react, how they would react if their sons run out of money in the country that will continue,” Radostin Sirkov commented.
The road from the Black Sea to the Moldovan border was difficult and dangerous. There were many fleeing the war in the buses with the two sailors.
“Fear, fear in the eyes of people, sorrow in the eyes of big men. They send newborn babies, mothers themselves. And just fear. You have explosions,” said Radostin Sirkov.
The two sailors say they have done nothing wrong and are loyal to the company he works for. According to them, the security of the team comes first.
