Russia threatens with prison for publication about the invasion
The State Duma unanimously considered the draft prosecution. The publication of inconsistent reports of an invasion of Ukraine, according to these initiatives, could face up to 15 years.
In Russia, for the coverage of the war, access has already been blocked to a number of media, in particular, to The New Times magazine, Deutsche Welle, BBC, as well as Meduza, Voice of America and Radio Liberty, declaring “foreign agents”.
The day before, Ekho Moskvy was turned off the air, the council noticed and decided to liquidate the radio station.
On Friday, Ekho Moskvy announced the deletion of official social media accounts, shut down and widespread general distribution. Before this broadcast, the Dozhd TV channel was stopped, which was also blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office due to publications about the war.
Other publications also announce the consumption of activity in Russia. So The Village took the editorial office to Warsaw. The Ural information portal Znak.com announced the suspension of work, citing a large number of restrictions for the press.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor called unreliable information about the war, not based on official sources. Moscow is demanding a “special military operation” be allocated to Ukraine, does not acknowledge its responsibility for the bombing of facilities and the death of civilians, and denies the scale of the losses covered by Kiev.
