A big center for Ukrainians in Vysehrad: the opening was hectic
The Regional Assistance Center for Aid to Ukraine moved from the Central Building of the Municipal Library to the Prague Congress Center in Pankrác (KCP) on Friday night. It has been operating there non-stop since Friday morning. About a thousand Ukrainians were waiting to be checked in before the opening.

The capital and the Central Bohemian Region have moved the center to larger premises in response to the intensification of the flow of war migrants from Ukraine. The assistance center offers newcomers comprehensive support, from registration with the foreigner police and insurance company to arranging accommodation, social benefits or employment, to health and psychological care. Refugees can also immediately use the services of a neighboring vaccination center and get vaccinated against coronavirus
“The center has 70 counters where the foreign police process is handled, there is a workplace for firefighters who provide accommodation, there is a workplace for the General Health Insurance Company,” said Luděk Prudil, head of Prague fire brigade, according to which it will be possible to tune the initial problems people daily.

“Adults and their children need to be stabilized the most mentally, physically and financially. We managed to secure a connection to health care and now we are working with the Labor Office so that people from Ukraine can apply for benefits in material need or to help them mediate work, “said Councilor Milena Johnová (Prague herself) on Tuesday after the opening of the assistance office. center in the Municipal Library.
Central Bohemian Regional Councilor Milan Vácha (STAN) said that the Central Bohemian Region has opened new smaller centers in Kutná Hora and Mladá Boleslav. “We are ready to open another one,” he added.
The staff and temporary workers of the city tourist agency PCT also help with the operation of the large center in Vyšehrad. “Our company wants to get involved in real help, so we may be ready to close some of our facilities so that our employees can help with coordination in the Congress Center. Some of our guides, who speak Russian and Ukrainian and will act as interpreters, will also be involved in the assistance, “said František Cipro, Chairman of the PCT Board of Directors.
PCT also has a freshly limited number of foreign visitors to Prague this year. Due to the war in Ukraine, the target of 50 percent compared to the period before the start of the pandemic (2019) will probably not be met at the end of the year. Almost no tourists from Russia will come to Prague this year, and due to the conflict, Americans and Asians will be reduced.
