Russia-Ukraine war: Debrecen is the capital of Eastern Hungary even if there is a problem – with video
Debrecen – The Russian-Ukrainian war is not taking place on Netflix, pro-government politicians are stressed. Its effects are increasingly being felt in the vicinity of Debrecen as well.
Lajos Kósa and László Pósán, two members of parliament from the ruling party, and Tamás Deutsch, head of the Fidesz European Parliament delegation, analyzed the effects and domestic phenomena of the Russian-Ukrainian war at a press conference by Fidesz’s Debrecen organization.

Lajos Kósa said that there is currently an election campaign in Hungary, so public life should be talking about the upcoming vote. Instead, since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war, the news has been primarily about that. That’s why most of the three of them talk about the consequences of the most serious conflict. The politician stated that the government is making every effort to keep our country out of the war and to help those in need fleeing the fighting.
“We condemn the Russian aggression, we stand for the territorial unit of Ukraine,” emphasized Lajos Kósa. – We have not vetoed a single decision on this. The most basic demand on our part may be not to get involved in the war.
The Member of Parliament pointed out that Debrecen is indeed the capital of Eastern Hungary, and this is the case even when trouble happens, as the problems are close. While visiting Tiszabecs, he could personally experience the situation of the refugees.
In the foreword, Tamás Deutsch emphasized that everyone should take into account that Kyiv, where the most serious fighting is taking place, is just over 1,100 kilometers from Budapest. What we read about this and see on TV and on the World Wide Web is not another series from Netflix, but a cruel reality that directly affects us. The politician pointed out that the EU reacted well to the events in this case, because a united position was soon reached to condemn the Russian aggression, which was also supported by the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament.
The MP said that as a result of the war, there are many peripheral countries outside the conflict, and they find that there is no such irresponsible opposition to the government anywhere in Hungary, where recklessness – or premeditated – would increase people’s insecurity and weaken their defenses. The politician cited as an example that a left-wing prime ministerial candidate would send Hungarian soldiers and weapons into the war zone – which would enter the war – and the false news they spread that the EU alone would not support certain financial sanctions against Russia.
– In the current situation, prudence and calm are needed in order for all Hungarians to be safe. That is why we are asking all left-wing politicians to refrain from further irresponsible statements, dangerous ideas and the dissemination of false news, said Tamás Deutsch.
The view spread by the left is particularly dangerous, which makes the Hungarian Prime Minister responsible for the outbreak of war. After all, this can be heard by Ukrainians fleeing to Transcarpathia through internal migration, which could lead to further conflicts.
László Pósán put it this way: the situation in the war also shows that the parliamentary elections in Hungary will be decisive, because a change of government would delay the development of Debrecen for decades. The politician pointed out that everyone can remember the change of power in 2002, when the left “threw out a number of decisions already made for Debrecen out the window”. Such was the case, for example, with the already approved plan for the double doubling of the road between Debrecen and Józsa.
Speaking about the election opportunities, Lajos Kósa said that people in Hungary want security and peace. Thus, the uncertainty-increasing behavior of the left-wing opposition may also be a factor in voting.
