Help for former partisans. The dragons brought the Ukrainian stadium manager with his family
For many years, he helped the Brno Dragons take care of the playground in Zamilovaný hájek, where they started until 2006. Now, in return, they helped him. The most successful Czech baseball club sent two vans to the Polish-Ukrainian border on Friday for 68-year-old administrator Nestor Wojteck and his family, who fled Ukraine before the war. “Such help is a matter of course,” says club president Igor Kratochvil.

He Wojtecka employs a small construction company. “Nestor has been working for me for a good twenty-five years. I help build a house for me and my friends, he is very handy. To this day, he also takes care of the playground in Zamilovovaný hájku, where we no longer play, but he still works there as the administrator of the complex. Whenever we need help repairing the current stadium, I can turn to it. He is very hardworking and kind-hearted, “he describes.
In addition to him, he also employs his two sons. “The boys are 40 and 42 years old. But they had to stay in Ukraine, because they expect calling orders in the coming days. Nestor’s wife, who works as a nurse, also stayed at home with them, “he explains.

So, together with Wojteck, his two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren came to the Czech Republic. “The boys have been home since November because they don’t build much during the winter. They were to return to work on March 15. But now it has escalated in Ukraine, so we had to act. We called and arranged everything in a few minutes. It was a quick action. We took one club van, the other from the company, and the boys immediately left work. There was nothing to wait for, “Kratochvíl explains.
According to him, there was a lot of chaos at the borders. “It has not been known for a long time what border crossing will be available. Eventually, one was open for cars and another for pedestrians. Nestor and his family stood in a two-kilometer queue for six hours. Only then did everyone get over the control. It was minus seven degrees outside. Beyond the borders, they got tired in the car and slept all the way to the Czech Republic, “says the club president.
At the moment, the family is safe. “Everyone is now in Love Grove, where Nestor has lived and cared for the complex for years. There is a large cottage with drinking water, shower and all facilities. We had a lot of offers for living in apartments, but everyone wants to stay together and this is the best solution. We have prepared the cottage and there is nothing missing in it. They also have a television there so that they can watch current events, “he adds.
Mixed feelings Dialogues. The comet is stumbling. And the Olympics? Strange because of the injury, he says
Wojteck’s daughters-in-law and grandchildren are in the Czech Republic for the first time. “The advantage is that Nestor knows it well here and will help them with everything. I will get the necessary documents again. We will create a program for children so that they do not get bored. We will take them for a good meal, we will provide English lessons. We have bikes here, so we come up with various activities, “Kratochvíl looks out.
At the same time, he is already planning further assistance. “Our former excellent pitcher Roman Yatsyuk wants to get a wife to the Czech Republic and then to Denmark. I am in contact with Karel Hrušovský (former player of the Brno Dragons – editor’s note)who has to go to the border for her. We are all in constant contact. That solidarity is enormous. We will take care of them all as long as we need, “he adds firmly.
