The University of Debrecen also helps to accommodate refugees from Ukraine, providing 300 places on four campuses. The first in the Beregszász II. Students of the Ferenc Rákóczi Hungarian College in Transcarpathia and their families are waiting in the colleges. If necessary, their university partners also participate in their provision.
The dormitories of the University of Debrecen provide temporary shelter for refugees from Ukraine. The institution has 300 places: 200 in Debrecen and a total of 100 on the Szolnok, Nyíregyháza and Hajdúböszörmény campuses. The number of people staying here is constantly changing, there were 21 on Monday.
– We try to help in a way that, in addition to providing accommodation, there is also a telephone helpline that is open from 0 to 24 hours, which means that anyone who arrives in the middle of the night or sees them arrive, or even always, can signal colleagues, they can be reached at all times. They will be able to help you know in which building we can accommodate the refugees at the moment – explained Imre Csiszár, dormitory director.
In the rooms equipped with a water block, the Beregszász II. The students, teachers and their families of the Hungarian College of Transcarpathia Ferenc Rákóczi are waiting for them, but third-world students studying in Ukraine will also arrive soon.
The university not only helps with accommodation, but also tries to integrate students and teachers into education.
– In our everyday life, we include not only Hungarians living abroad, but also cooperation with the surrounding countries, the cooperation with the surrounding universities and the surrounding cultures. So it was only natural that on the first day of the outbreak of the war we signaled, and our partners and colleagues applied, that if help was needed, said Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen.
In addition to accommodation, the university also tries to help those fleeing the war with donations, and the student government cooperates with the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service.
– There is a great need for dry food, hygiene products, clothes and blankets. Everything will be in the right place, it will be removed from us by the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service every Friday, and he will take care of his removal – said István Csont, the president of DEHÖK.
Donations can be handed out on the university campuses every weekday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
