Not Délibáb: eleven scientists discuss the poetics of the Great Plain in Vámospércs
Vámospércs – The special moment of the conference will be the naming ceremony of the library in Vámospércs: the institution of the smallest city of Hajdú will take the name of its honorary citizen, the poet János Térey from Debrecen.
Vámospércs will host a prestigious scientific conference and mini-festival on March 4 and 5, as the Association of Young Writers will hold an event entitled The Poetics of the Hungarian Great Plain in the renewed House of Culture and Library.
– It is a significant success that the writing organization has voted in favor of our city, so in the first days of March, 11 scholars will discuss the literary, mainly the nature of the culture in the Great Plain. Professors from Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged will arrive, but young researchers will also give lectures. The event is open to anyone, and the program will be enriched by a reading theater, a cinema and two unusual guided tours, ”said Mayor Andrea Ménes.
Tamás Korpa, the main organizer of the conference, said it was a matter of prestige for Vámospércs to be the home of such an event.
– The conference and the book published from the lectures link the thinking about the Great Plain to Vámospércs for a long time.
During the two days, we look for the answer to how the elements of the Great Plain, which radiate from different ages and intellectual trends (Reformation, Counter-Reformation, National Classicism, Romanticism, Classical Modernity, Realism), work in contemporary and semi-contemporary literary texts.
After all, the Great Plain has been beyond the regional, geographical and economic nature of Hungarian memory, national self-image and imagination from the very beginning, ”said Tamás Korpa, chief organizer.
The conference is supported by the National Cultural Fund (NKA).
– The highlight of the event will be the naming ceremony of the local library on March 4 from 11 a.m. “The laurel winner János Térey has been attached to our settlement since he was a child, and he also received our title of honorary citizen. We think you would feel most at home among the books. We want to set a memory worthy of naming his oeuvre, Andrea Ménes told us.
