Cagliari adheres to the Florence Charter for Peace and Unity of Peoples. Last Saturday Mayor Paolo Truzzu, in Florence for the Mediterranean Forum initiated by Mayor Dario Nardella, signed the Charter of Florence together with 60 bishops and as many mayors of 20 Mediterranean countries. After three days of intense work, mayors and bishops have signed a unified document to make the Mediterranean a place of peace, intercultural and interreligious dialogue and cooperation for economic growth.
“It was an important day, because for everyone it was clear, also in light of the sad news coming from Ukraine, that peace is not an expected event,” said Truzzu. But above all, “we must work tirelessly to reduce the gap between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean”.
“Only through economic growth and cooperation, respecting everyone’s traditions, the promotion of culture and training, is it possible to offer all people bordering the Mediterranean a concrete opportunity for work and hope”.
“It was a pleasure to share this experience with our archbishop, His Excellency Monsignor Baturi, who once again testifies to the centrality of Cagliari in the Mediterranean”, concluded the mayor.
