Former Florence hotel and youth hostel, that’s who the new owners are
Ospedaletti. Two foreigners are the new owners of theformer hotel Florence and ofyouth hostel of Ospedaletti, the first privately owned ended up at auction, the second part of the complexes sold to the highest bidder by the public company Zone24 in liquidation. Reply to the name of Andrei Karpov (surname of the well-known Soviet chess champion), the new patron of the former hotel in Corso Regina Margherita who was awarded the property for the sum of 1 million and 215 thousand euros in October. The deed of sale was closed in recent days. The new buyer, a US national of Russian origins, has not yet revealed himself in the country.
To Mr. Karpov the mayor of Ospedaletti Daniel Cimiotti is ready to deliver in addition to his welcome, in the hope that the recovery work on the former hotel will start soon, also the request for a urgent action for safety of the building which shows signs of aging and from time to time unloads rubble on the street.
Of no less importance for the future tourist accommodation of the city of roses, in which only two hotels survive (the Savoia and the Petit Royal), the veil has also been lifted on the other buyer who made the building his own, built for a cycle path in 2011 with the funds of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy as a youth hostel. It was awarded for around 400 thousand euros at the end of 2021 by a company headed by Even Stevenartresident in Monaco, well-known French driver who has already won the 24 Hours of Mans three times, one of the most important races in the world. Stievenart, born in 1983, immediately after concluding the purchase, presented himself at the town hall to demonstrate hypotheses of starting the business which for now have remained closed in a drawer. The youth hostel, overlooking the cycle path, has recently been subjected to multiple acts of vandalism by local youths.
Speaking of the waterfront, the redevelopment and conversion plan of the former railway station into a bike hotel is moving slowly. Further additions to the project commissioned to the Calvi-Ceschia-Viganò architecture studio of Sanremo were requested by the municipal administration. In 2021 he had been the entrepreneur Paul Piconeowner of bike rentals and some refreshment points on the cycle path, to take over the building auctioned by Zone24 for the amount of approx 1 million euroswith the aim of creating a hotel at the service of bicycle enthusiasts.
Former Florence hotel. The award took place in October 2022 after the fourth auction, starting from a minimum offer of 838,476.56 euros, despite the estimated value of the property being 2 million and 650 thousand euros. It is a 7-storey building, which until last year housed a hotel and restaurant, with 11 single rooms, 25 double rooms and other accommodations for a total of 89 beds, as well as common rooms, ancillary services and outdoor spaces.
The property is bound by the intended use, but according to what we learn, in the event that the Municipality grants it, part of the building could be transformed into lodgings. There is also a second bond, of a military nature, which concerns the land where the former hotel stands, but it seems that this bond is forfeited on the basis of a state law.
