Kladno: The main runway of Václav Havel Prague Airport will be closed for three months
24.02.2022 8:38 | Press Release
In the period from March 28 to July 1, 2022, the main runway 06/24 will be closed, all air traffic will take place on the secondary runway 12/30 in both directions, including night traffic.
As in the year, this year Prague Airport has less air traffic for modifications and maintenance of the main runways. During the closure of the main railway, only the secondary railway 12/30 leading to the area of Prague and Kladno will be in operation. The direction of traffic (departure in the direction of Prague or Kladno) depends on the current meteorological conditions, especially wind. However, the preferred direction is to land from Prague and take off for Kladno.
Why are the adjustments going on in these months? To minimize the noise load in densely populated areas, the effort is to direct construction modifications outside the summer months with the highest traffic density. Due to the technological conditions of the completed constructions, such as the fact that the track 12/30 is not fully equipped for operation under low supervision, spring and early summer are the only periods when it is possible to make adjustments.
The plan is to modify the cable duct for lighting security equipment, landscaping in the immediate vicinity of the tracks (so-called track strip), reconstruction of the surface from the tracks so-called TWY Bravo, replacement of pavements and other maintenance work. Many adjustments are mainly related to the new legislation of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In this context, a similar closure of Prague Airport will not be avoided in some years to come.
